P-1946 is an experimental protease inhibitor, which has shown encouraging results in laboratory studies. It is being developed by a Canadian company called Pharmacor Inc.

In vitro data indicates that P-1946 is fully active against HIV containing primary resistance mutations to amprenavir (Agenerase) and nelfinavir (Viracept). Furthermore, virus which is resistant to other protease inhibitors shows only mild resistance to P-1946. These data suggests that P-1946 may be a useful agent in people with resistance to the existing range of protease inhibitors. No studies in animals or human have yet been reported, so no safety data are available.
