From the point of view of HIV transmission, branding is probably safe because of the very high temperatures involved. However the standard advice about keeping the wound clean and sterile applies. It is important not to let anyone else's blood or cum get onto the wound.

However, branding clearly involves severe and permanent damage to the skin, and there may be a risk of damage to underlying organs.

It is essential to be completely aware of the health issues before trying this. It would be wise to learn from the experience of SM community groups, especially in the USA where this is probably more frequently done.
