Travel insurance
There are a range of insurance policies available for HIV-positive people intending on travelling. A list of these companies can be found in the section on travel. It is wisest to phone and obtain as many quotes as possible, as the restrictions that may apply, as well as the premium may vary greatly from company to company. The following details apply only to trips booked with The Virgin Group.
The Virgin Group
Virgin Atlantic Airways has a travel insurance package exclusively for Virgin Atlantic customers departing from the United Kingdom. Health insurance is not subject to a health warranty. However, all health claims are excluded where at the time of taking out insurance the person whose condition gives rise to a claim is either:
- An in–patient (or awaiting admission or booked to be admitted to) a hospital, hospice or nursing home,
- or pregnant and expected to give birth before, or within two months following the last day of the booked holiday
- or travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner or for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment abroad.
The insurance is restricted to:
- Residents of the UK only (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)
- Return trips which commence and finish in the United Kingdom and do not exceed 94 days in total.
